LPG installation Porsche – for which models can it?

Porsche 911

With a Porsche 911, the older models are in principle possible with multipoint injection. However, there is only room for a tank on the back seat. So the back seat disappears in that case. The newer models (from 2007) are equipped with a direct injection engine and cannot be equipped with an LPG installation.

Porsche Cayenne

The Porsche Cayenne is most popular for LPG or CNG.

The first model of the Porsche Cayenne is a multipoint injection. Both LPG and CNG are possible for this model. This Cayenne was made until 2007.

The newer model allows the following motorizations. Please note, it should be the same engine. If in doubt, please contact us in advance, before purchasing the car.

Other models

For other models such as the Porsche Panamera, Porsche Macan, Porsche Cayman…

If it is an older model made for 2007, it is usually possible to convert the engine but we have to see if there is room for the LPG tank.

These are newer models with direct injection, how to take into account that only the engineizations as in the list of the Porsche Cayenne (above) can be converted to LPG. Other motorizations with a direct injection engine are therefore not possible. In addition, it is also necessary to see if there is room for the LPG tank. Often this will

Taxes for LPG in Flanders

It may sound strange, but for vehicles equipped with an LPG installation, a discount is first given, and then an additional tax is added.

Discount on the BIV (tax the first time when you start driving your car)

If your car drives on LPG, you will receive a significant reduction on the BIV (in some cases more than 50 percent off). You can calculate the BIV on the following link: https://belastingen.fenb.be/ui/public/vkb/simulatie

In the simulation it is not immediately noticeable that you get a discount by LPG, because only the net tax is mentioned (with the discount deducted). To know the right discount, it is best to enter the same vehicle with the fuel “petrol”. That’s how you see the difference.

The discount is not limited in amount, which can increase the benefit to more than 5000 euros. So it’s definitely worth calculating.

Reduction of traffic tax

For each passenger car with LPG there is a reduction in the traffic tax of 107.88 euros (from 01/01/2019).

Additional traffic tax

An additional traffic tax must be paid for passenger cars. The amount is calculated based on the power of your vehicle’s engine.

Belastbaar fiscaal vermogenBedrag van de belasting
Up to 7 HP89.16 euros
From 8 to 13 HP148.68 euros
More than 13 HP208.20 euros

For a small engine up to 7 tax HP you will therefore have a net discount on the traffic tax (107.88-89.16 euros). So at 7 HP you get a net 18.72 euro discount. For a car of 8 to 13 HP you pay an extra 40.80 euros and for a car with more than 13 HP you pay net 100.32 extra.

No additional LPG tax should be paid for light freight and there is no reduction.

Bigas Premium – manual

First of all congratulations on purchasing your high-quality Bigas car gas system.

This guide was created to familiarize you with the Bigas PREMIUM autogas system as soon as possible. We advise you to study this manual carefully in order to avoid any misunderstandings.

The use of car gas, as fuel for your car, has a number of important advantages. First, the litre price of car gas is considerably lower than the price you pay for a litre of petrol or diesel.

The exhaust gases that your car emits with a Bigas PREMIUM car gas plant are significantly cleaner on car gas companies than if it were to run on petrol or diesel. So you help during each ride to reduce, for example, co2 emissions (deemed responsible for global warming) and other harmful substances, such as nitrogen oxides.

We wish you many pleasant and economical kilometres on autogas with your new Bigas PREMIUM system and hope to count you among our loyal customer base.

With friendly greetings

What is Autogas/ LPG/ GPL/ Flüssiggas?

LPG is short for Liquefied Petroleum Gases and is a composition of propane and butane. In many countries also called Autogas, GPL or Flüssiggas.

Land-dependent, relatively more propane is added to the composition in the winter months to ensure the pressure in the tank and to allow the autogas plant to function normally at lower temperatures. Low temperatures lower the pressure in the tank, limiting the supply of liquid LPG. Under extreme conditions, when the composition is not suitable for the prevailing temperature, this can lead to insufficient supply of LPG. Short-term switching to petrol and automatically switching back when the pressure is sufficient may result. Switching to petrol will also take place if the contents of the tank are insufficient for the requested consumption.

The LPG sold in the winter possesses, due to the higher share propane, a lower energy value, resulting in a higher LPG consumption. It may also happen that in certain countries the proportion of propane is much higher even outside the winter months and you can therefore experience it all year round. Within Europe very different compositions are used, this because of the prevailing temperature and/or availability on site. At normal atmospheric pressure and outside temperature, hydrocarbon compounds are gaseous. However, in the case of low overpressure, they can be compacted into liquid.

What are the specific benefits of the Bigas PREMIUM?

The PREMIUM system is a technologically advanced autogas injection system, in which the LPG is injected in sequentially and per cylinder. The system works closely with the petrol injection system, resulting in hassle-free driving characteristics, coupled with optimal fuel consumption.

Before you start driving LPG …

Study the contents of this manual and keep it with your car papers.

Operation of the PREMIUM system

The switch consists of 1 button, 7 LEDS and an internal speaker.

lpg switch operation Bigas premium

Control BUTTON
The control button must be pressed to switch from petrol to LPG. It will automatically take the last mode used after contacting. If the car is switched off on LPG, it will automatically switch to LPG after the next start. Switching lpg to petrol is also done by pressing this switch lightly.

Start on LPG
The Bigas PREMIUM system ensures that under all conditions, petrol is always started, despite the switch being in the LPG position. The time the system runs on petrol after the start, before automatically switching to LPG, depends on the engine temperature.

GREEN LED
Fast blink – the car is ready to start on petrol and automatically switch to LPG
Constant fires and with yellow LED extinguished – the car drives on LPG

RED LED + 4 GREEN LEDS
Fuel level indicator; red LED = reserve, while the 4 green LEDS indicate the tank content (1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4). The LEDS only burn when you’re driving in LPG mode.

YELLOW LED
Permanently ripped off with Green LED – driving on petrol
Permanently ripped off with flashing Green LED – the car is ready to start on gasoline and automatically switch to LPG.

EMPTYLPG TANK
It is not advisable to empty your LPG tank completely.
When your tank completely empties, the Bigas PREMIUM system will automatically switch back to gasoline and a buzzer will sound. At the same time, the green LED will blink on the bottom left of the switch. Both signals are terminated by pressing the LPG switch.

Minimal petrol supply

Make sure that your petrol tank is filled for at least 25, to prevent dry running and failure of the petrol pump! If your petrol tank is empty, the car will not start! Because your car runs on petrol for a short time after starting, you should take into account a minimum petrol consumption. Note, the shelf life of gasoline is about 3 months.

General tips

What you definitely NEVER have to do:
1. Refuel autogas with running engine.
2. Smoke while refueling.
3. Refuel autogas while your mobile phone is on.
4. If you suspect an LPG leak, check your autogas plant for gas density with a burning match or lighter.
In this case, have an approved construction company check your gas plant as a matter of urgency. In this case, switch to gasoline company.
5. Carry out maintenance or repair work yourself.

Service with your PREMIUM car gas system

For service work on your car gas installation, you should contact your supplier (dealership) or your installation of the LPG system.
This dealer has built in and/or supplied your car gas system and is therefore your point of contact.
In case of malfunctions, you should always provide the installation invoice.

Make sure your car is checked and maintained in accordance with the maintenance schedule. Also have the autogas system checked and have the LPG filter replaced every 20,000 km.
If a valve lubrication system was installed, such as the Flashlube system: don’t forget to refill the oil in a timely manner.

Finally, make sure that:

  • the electrical installation of your car is in order.
  • the ignition and the valves are properly adjusted. When driving on LPG, the interval of checking the valve clearance may have changed. Check this with your dealer.
  • de bougies in goede staat verkeren. Bij het rijden op autogas kan het voorkomen dat een ander type bougie wordt voorgeschreven. Controleer dit bij uw dealer.
  • the cooling system is in order and at standard level.
  • the coolant, petrol, LPG and vacuum hoses are in good condition.

How to act in case of failure?

If your car is malfunctioning, switch to petrol first to see if the fault also occurs on petrol.

  • Do not try to fix the fault yourself.
  • When you smell a gas smell, switch directly to petrol and go to your dealer to have your gas system checked.
  • Always contact your dealer, who has knowledge, experience and equipment to locate and fix the fault to your car.
  • Do not let your car gas system ‘repair’ your car gas system, but only use your dealer’s services.
  • Describe the fault as accurately as possible, this prevents unnecessarily long repair times.

Bigas SGIS PREMIUM

Technical developments in the field of automotive electronics and petrol engines are faster and faster. Modern petrol engines are equipped with a sequential multipoint petrol injection system that works with the entire vehicle electronics via a CAN bus system.

Bigas’ response to these technical developments is the Bigas SGIS PREMIUM. This is a high-tech multipoint sequential in line LPG injection system, developed by Bigas entirely in-house during a 6-year development period.

SGIS PREMIUM guarantees you optimal engine performance and consistently low exhaust gas emissions in combination with a very competitive price. The new Bigas injection system is one of the few systems currently on the market that is able to communicate without difficulty with the ECU’s of EURO-6 engines. Absolute novelty are the new silent LPG injectors that inject the LPG pulse formation and timed for each cylinder separately.

Bigas LPG evaporator RI21
Evaporator Bigas RI21

Operation

Bigas SGIS PREMIUM system works according to the master-slave principle, which means that the gas injection times are determined by the petrol computer. This is why there is no difference between driving on gasoline and driving on gas.

All the original functions of the modern EURO-6 engines continue to work and exhaust gas emissions also meet the strictest standards with the SGIS PREMIUM system.

Since the system only works on the petrol injectors, few electrical connections need to be made, which reduces the risk of poor contacts or hard-to-find failures to a minimum. It is no longer necessary to install all kinds of simulators to ensure proper operation.

Components

Evaporator

The LPG supply for the injector is controlled by a new SGIS PREMIUM evaporator. This evaporator evaporates the liquid LPG from the tank to a controlled pre-print of 1 to 1.6 bar. New is the MAP (manifold pressure) reference input with which the controlled LPG pressure varies slightly with the engine vacuum.

CNG evaporating Bigas RI27-J

Computer

The SGIS PREMIUM computer makes the calorie calculation for LPG based on the
injection times generated by the petrol computer and transmits the edited injection times
gas injectors.

Special is the electrical control for the LPG injectors that are controlled to 6V and are therefore independent of battery voltage and/or temperature variations. The Closed loop flow control for injector controls the opening time using the feedback flow signal in such a way that the calculated LPG quantity is actually injected.

The SGIS PREMIUM computer is designed to withstand the most
extreme temperature fluctuations and vibrations. Due to its handy size, the system can also be installed in the smallest engine compartment.

The ECU is OBD/CAN sent, i.e. during driving on LPG the injection is permanently optimized using the OBD/CAN data. As a result, your vehicle will consume less and drive better on LPG.

LPG Schakelaar

The switch is designed to be placed in any free place in the dashboard. The switch is equipped with LEDs to indicate whether the car is running on gas or petrol and to indicate the amount of gas. The engine automatically switches to petrol when the LPG tank is empty. You will then be alerted by a sound signal and by a flashing of the tank display meter.

Double LPG evaporator Bigas
Double LPG evaporator Bigas for a double power

Injectors

Each cylinder has its own injector. The injectors are completely silent. The injectors in the premium system do not work with a plunger but with a membrane. As a result, the injector is less sensitive to dirt and oil that can occur in the LPG. And that contributes to a longer life of the injector.

Valve lubrication

For optimal protection of your valves, the Bigas SGIS PREMIUM system offers the possibility to inject petrol while driving on LPG. We recommend this for the most valve-sensitive engines.
This way, your valves are permanently lubricated by the petrol addition. We recommend adding 50 millilitres of Flashlube at a full petrol tank (we have a special packaging for this). As a result, your petrol together with the Flashlube additive will optimally protect your valves, even while driving on LPG.
In order to avoid unnecessary fuel consumption, the petrol addition is based on the load on the engine. With heavy loads, relatively more petrol will be injected.
For an average driver, you have to count on a petrol consumption of 2 to 5 percent.

A separate valve lubrication can also be mounted.
