LPG is de meest milieuvriendelijke brandstof van alle fossiele brandstoffen.

Bij het aanschaffen van een wagen heb je de keuze tussen drie soorten brandstoffen: diesel, benzine of LPG.

Dieselauto's belasten het milieu het meest. Dieselauto's stoten 30 keer meer roet en fijn stof uit dan LPG auto's. Roet en fijn stof in de lucht is schadelijk voor de gezondheid.
Verder komt er uit de uitlaat van een dieselauto bij hogere snelheden ongeveer drie keer zo veel stikstofoxiden als bij een benzineauto. Stikstofdioxide in de lucht leidt tot smog en zure regen.

Een auto met een moderne Bigas SGIS PLUS LPG-installatie belasten het milieu het minst. Wat betreft de CO2-uitstoot scoort de LPG-auto ongeveer 10 procent gunstiger dan de benzineauto. Ook is de uitstoot van vluchtige organische stoffen lager. Een auto met autogas stoot bijna geen roetdeeltjes uit, en is de oplossing voor het SMOG-probleem.

Over het geheel genomen is LPG minder milieubelastend dan diesel. De keuze van LPG kan ook financieel erg voordelig zijn, omdat LPG per liter beduidend minder kost dan diesel en benzine.

In London alone, 1.3 million tonnes of atmospheric pollution are released each year with around 80% of this coming from motor vehicles.

Particulates (small particles of black smoke and other pollutants) released by diesel and, to a lesser extent, petrol engines are the most harmful air pollutant. Particulates have been estimated to contribute to the deaths of up to 10,000 people each year in the UK.

Benzene is a human carcinogen so dangerous that it is impossible to demonstrate a dose which carries no risk. The main source of benzene in the atmosphere is petrol from cars.

The Carcinogen 1,3-butadiene is also a threat at any measurable dose. Two thirds of 1,3-butadiene emissions (some 6,390 tonnes annually) come from petrol driven vehicles.

Many of the emissions from Petrol and Diesel engines also damage the natural environment and buildings.

LPG - a significant improvement!

With LPG (liquid petroleum gas) vehicles...

• Carbon Monoxide emissions are around 80% less than petrol and 40% less than diesel.
• Hydrocarbon emissions are around 60% less than petrol and 50% less than diesel.
• Nitrous oxide emissions are around 80% less than petrol and 90% less than diesel.
• Particulates (PM10s) are non existent in LPG.
• Carbon dioxide, which contributes to smog and global warming, is lower in LPG.

The UK government is firmly behind the incentive to switch to Liquid Petroleum Gas. That is why, in the 1998 budget, excise duty was raised on every fuel except LPG.

There was a commitment to a 6% annual increase on road fuel duties, except LPG which has seen no increase.
