Bigas Premium – manual

First of all congratulations on purchasing your high-quality Bigas car gas system.

This guide was created to familiarize you with the Bigas PREMIUM autogas system as soon as possible. We advise you to study this manual carefully in order to avoid any misunderstandings.

The use of car gas, as fuel for your car, has a number of important advantages. First, the litre price of car gas is considerably lower than the price you pay for a litre of petrol or diesel.

The exhaust gases that your car emits with a Bigas PREMIUM car gas plant are significantly cleaner on car gas companies than if it were to run on petrol or diesel. So you help during each ride to reduce, for example, co2 emissions (deemed responsible for global warming) and other harmful substances, such as nitrogen oxides.

We wish you many pleasant and economical kilometres on autogas with your new Bigas PREMIUM system and hope to count you among our loyal customer base.

With friendly greetings

What is Autogas/ LPG/ GPL/ Flüssiggas?

LPG is short for Liquefied Petroleum Gases and is a composition of propane and butane. In many countries also called Autogas, GPL or Flüssiggas.

Land-dependent, relatively more propane is added to the composition in the winter months to ensure the pressure in the tank and to allow the autogas plant to function normally at lower temperatures. Low temperatures lower the pressure in the tank, limiting the supply of liquid LPG. Under extreme conditions, when the composition is not suitable for the prevailing temperature, this can lead to insufficient supply of LPG. Short-term switching to petrol and automatically switching back when the pressure is sufficient may result. Switching to petrol will also take place if the contents of the tank are insufficient for the requested consumption.

The LPG sold in the winter possesses, due to the higher share propane, a lower energy value, resulting in a higher LPG consumption. It may also happen that in certain countries the proportion of propane is much higher even outside the winter months and you can therefore experience it all year round. Within Europe very different compositions are used, this because of the prevailing temperature and/or availability on site. At normal atmospheric pressure and outside temperature, hydrocarbon compounds are gaseous. However, in the case of low overpressure, they can be compacted into liquid.

What are the specific benefits of the Bigas PREMIUM?

The PREMIUM system is a technologically advanced autogas injection system, in which the LPG is injected in sequentially and per cylinder. The system works closely with the petrol injection system, resulting in hassle-free driving characteristics, coupled with optimal fuel consumption.

Before you start driving LPG …

Study the contents of this manual and keep it with your car papers.

Operation of the PREMIUM system

The switch consists of 1 button, 7 LEDS and an internal speaker.

lpg switch operation Bigas premium

Control BUTTON
The control button must be pressed to switch from petrol to LPG. It will automatically take the last mode used after contacting. If the car is switched off on LPG, it will automatically switch to LPG after the next start. Switching lpg to petrol is also done by pressing this switch lightly.

Start on LPG
The Bigas PREMIUM system ensures that under all conditions, petrol is always started, despite the switch being in the LPG position. The time the system runs on petrol after the start, before automatically switching to LPG, depends on the engine temperature.

GREEN LED
Fast blink – the car is ready to start on petrol and automatically switch to LPG
Constant fires and with yellow LED extinguished – the car drives on LPG

RED LED + 4 GREEN LEDS
Fuel level indicator; red LED = reserve, while the 4 green LEDS indicate the tank content (1/4, 2/4, 3/4, 4/4). The LEDS only burn when you’re driving in LPG mode.

YELLOW LED
Permanently ripped off with Green LED – driving on petrol
Permanently ripped off with flashing Green LED – the car is ready to start on gasoline and automatically switch to LPG.

EMPTYLPG TANK
It is not advisable to empty your LPG tank completely.
When your tank completely empties, the Bigas PREMIUM system will automatically switch back to gasoline and a buzzer will sound. At the same time, the green LED will blink on the bottom left of the switch. Both signals are terminated by pressing the LPG switch.

Minimal petrol supply

Make sure that your petrol tank is filled for at least 25, to prevent dry running and failure of the petrol pump! If your petrol tank is empty, the car will not start! Because your car runs on petrol for a short time after starting, you should take into account a minimum petrol consumption. Note, the shelf life of gasoline is about 3 months.

General tips

What you definitely NEVER have to do:
1. Refuel autogas with running engine.
2. Smoke while refueling.
3. Refuel autogas while your mobile phone is on.
4. If you suspect an LPG leak, check your autogas plant for gas density with a burning match or lighter.
In this case, have an approved construction company check your gas plant as a matter of urgency. In this case, switch to gasoline company.
5. Carry out maintenance or repair work yourself.

Service with your PREMIUM car gas system

For service work on your car gas installation, you should contact your supplier (dealership) or your installation of the LPG system.
This dealer has built in and/or supplied your car gas system and is therefore your point of contact.
In case of malfunctions, you should always provide the installation invoice.

Make sure your car is checked and maintained in accordance with the maintenance schedule. Also have the autogas system checked and have the LPG filter replaced every 20,000 km.
If a valve lubrication system was installed, such as the Flashlube system: don’t forget to refill the oil in a timely manner.

Finally, make sure that:

  • the electrical installation of your car is in order.
  • the ignition and the valves are properly adjusted. When driving on LPG, the interval of checking the valve clearance may have changed. Check this with your dealer.
  • de bougies in goede staat verkeren. Bij het rijden op autogas kan het voorkomen dat een ander type bougie wordt voorgeschreven. Controleer dit bij uw dealer.
  • the cooling system is in order and at standard level.
  • the coolant, petrol, LPG and vacuum hoses are in good condition.

How to act in case of failure?

If your car is malfunctioning, switch to petrol first to see if the fault also occurs on petrol.

  • Do not try to fix the fault yourself.
  • When you smell a gas smell, switch directly to petrol and go to your dealer to have your gas system checked.
  • Always contact your dealer, who has knowledge, experience and equipment to locate and fix the fault to your car.
  • Do not let your car gas system ‘repair’ your car gas system, but only use your dealer’s services.
  • Describe the fault as accurately as possible, this prevents unnecessarily long repair times.
