Fixed LPG System for Motorhomes: What Do You Need?

Many motorhome owners are switching to a fixed LPG system instead of using loose gas bottles. But which components do you actually need? In this article, we answer the most important questions based on a customer inquiry and attached photos.

Customer Inquiry: We are looking for a supplier of LPG gas accessories and found your website. We intend to equip our motorhome with fixed aluminum 27-liter LPG bottles. After thoroughly browsing your website, we are not entirely sure which components we need exactly. Our current gas installation uses exchangeable butane bottles.

We would like to receive a quote for the LPG built-in components. We had already selected the following items, but we are not sure if they are compatible with each other:

  • 2x Alugas 27L with German blue valve (ALU27KCEDE)
  • 1x Gaslow LPG outside filler with built-in box in white for motorhomes (1700196-08-4110)
  • 1x Reinforcement plate for outside filler (170021-50-235780-022)
  • 1x Outside filler bayonet angled 1/2″ SAE (170012-481-130-1002)

Could you also advise us on the correct connection hose from the angled outside filler bayonet (170012-481-130-1002) to the gas bottles? Do we also need gas filters? If so, which ones do you recommend? And should any extra safety measures be applied, such as hose rupture protection?

Correction and Advice: Good news! The parts you have selected are mostly compatible. We are happy to provide a few corrections and recommendations:

Outside Filler: The Gaslow LPG outside filler with built-in box (1700196-08-4110) already includes a built-in bayonet connection. Therefore, the angled outside filler bayonet (170012-481-130-1002) is redundant and does not need to be ordered separately.

🔗 Filler Hoses: You will need filler hoses to connect the outside filler to the bottles. You can order the correct lengths here:

We usually use the following setup:

  • A 1.50-meter filler hose (straight x angled) to the first bottle.
  • A T-piece (art. no. TVSWZ) on the first bottle.
  • A second filler hose of 0.50 meters (straight x angled) to the second bottle.

This setup allows you to fill both bottles simultaneously using a single outside filler.

🛑 Gas Filters & Safety: For optimal protection, we recommend 2x GOK Caramatic filtre M20x1.5 50600-01.

You mount these directly onto your Truma DuoControl pressure regulator. Since you already have a crash sensor and a hose with rupture protection, no additional safety measures are required.
