FAQ – Solar panels for motorhomes: your questions, our answers

Can I combine solar panels of different wattages?

Yes, technically that’s possible, but let’s not sugar-coat it. Combining panels of different wattages can work – if you know what you’re doing, or better yet, if we do it for you. The trick is to connect them so they work in harmony, like an orchestra with a conductor. As long as the voltage and cabling match, a smart charge controller can balance things out. But beware: panels that are too far apart in capacity may end up working against each other rather than together. Want certainty? Let us check your setup.

Do I need an extra charge controller if I add another solar panel?

That depends on how generous your current system already is. A charge controller – the brain of your system – must be able to handle the extra power from that new panel. If your current controller still has some headroom in terms of wattage, you’re fine. But if you’re adding a powerful panel and your controller starts sweating, then it’s time for an upgrade. An MPPT controller is usually the smart choice: it extracts more power from your panels, especially when the weather is grey and cloudy. PWM can work too, but it’s less efficient. Just check your specs, and you’ll know.

Can I connect a second AGM battery to my existing battery?

Yes, that’s possible, but it’s not just a matter of hooking up some cables and hoping for the best. Two AGM batteries can work together well, as long as they share the same specs: voltage, capacity, and – let’s be honest – roughly the same life experience. Pairing an old, tired battery with a fresh newcomer is asking for trouble. Connecting them in parallel doubles your capacity, which is great for your camper adventures. Just make sure they’re in balance, otherwise the weaker one will drag the stronger one down prematurely.

Why should I choose lithium over AGM?

Lithium batteries are the rockstars of the battery world: they last longer, give more (up to 80–90% discharge without complaint), and recharge faster. AGM is reliable, a loyal workhorse, but heavier and slower – you can only use about half its capacity before it starts grumbling. Yes, lithium costs more upfront, and your wallet might flinch. But long term? Less hassle, fewer replacements, and a camper ready for the future. It’s an investment in freedom, not just in technology.

When can the installation be scheduled?

That depends on both your schedule and ours. We’re happy to arrange a time that works for you – and yes, you’re welcome to wait while we do the work. Online booking for solar panels isn’t an option; this isn’t like ordering a pizza with one click. It’s serious work, custom-tailored to your needs. Just call or email us, and we’ll find a date together.

Where does the installation take place?

In our workshop in Eeklo, where we have the space, tools, and coffee to do it right. Bring your motorhome, and we’ll make sure it leaves with a sunny upgrade.

Can I add extras during the appointment?

Absolutely! We’re flexible – extras are always welcome. If you get a bright idea on the spot or want to add something, no problem. We’ll adapt and get it done. Flexibility is in our DNA, so we’ll always make it work.
